About

Nadya E Anderson

" I am...
a treasure hunter, beachcomber and bower bird.
A designer of objects, costumes, environments/spaces and visuals.
I love Haberdashery and Hardware, bits and bobs.
I am a dreamer, explorer, and environmentalist.

Art, music and dance are my soul food.

I am fascinated by human creativity and ingenuity, and how we express our humanity through Art and Culture. Throughout history, it has always been the case that art reflects the society of the time.

My current practice is figurative, using both water based and oil based clay, working from a live model using traditional figurative sculpture techniques, including mould making, and casting.

Influenced by classical realism and surrealism, I focus on the figure and how it can express the complex world of human emotions and conditions. My aim is to instil life into the piece I'm creating.

When working as a 'Found Object' Sculptor. My work focused on re-using and re-purposing society’s discarded objects and materials, giving them a new life and context, by transforming them into works of Art. We live in a disposable society, we over-produce and discard rather than repair. We plunder our Earths resources in search of a quick profit without planning for a sustainable future. I use materials and components that come to me with a history, memories and associations that I then use in a different context to create a new dialogue with the world. " - Nadya
